Europe displays a wide array of GovTech initiatives. This page aims to provide a summary overview of all these initiatives.
These initiatives include public and private organisations of the following types: accelerators and labs, events, public sector organisations, communities, incubators, think tanks, academia programmes, research centres, SMEs, governmental GovTech-focused initiatives and public sector ICT providers (including government in-house ICT providers).
GovTech Connect defined “GovTech” as technologies used by public authorities to deliver public services that are new, innovative and previously untested. These technologies need to be scalable and are usually developed by SMEs and start-ups, but they can also be developed by larger businesses, academia, the third sector and internal public sector teams. Frequently, governmental bodies integrate GovTech solutions by means of innovation-driven public procurement. This demand can yield contributions towards the maturation of a GovTech ecosystem, facilitating collaboration among diverse market actors and stakeholders.

In fact, innovative start-ups and SMEs play an important role by acting as essential drivers of new and previously untested technologies for the implementation of cutting-edge services, thus helping to enrich the market and the GovTech ecosystem with fresh and ground-breaking ideas. Therefore, the continuous expansion of the GovTech world generates important virtuous circles of development that not only foster innovation of the public sector and green transition, but also pave the way to new opportunities for the next innovative entrepreneurship.
