What do we mean by Legislation & Technology?

We believe that technology can support policymaking activities in various ways. This page explores the different links between legislation and technology and how technology can be an enabler of policymaking and law-making activities.

The abundance, length, depth and complexity of legal texts is constantly growing and makes law-making, legal analysis and enforcement ever more complex. However, new technologies, hold significant potential to assist and support policymakers in these tasks.

Some of the key challenges we notice in policy activities:

Innovative digital solutions powered by new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and new practices such as law as code hold significant potential to support policymakers in the different challenges they face today. Many such tools are being developed, piloted and deployed at the moment. These solutions use for instance semantic analysis, legal text mining, big data and linked open data, artificial intelligence and more to overcome the above challenges.
